Woman taken into custody after armed barricade in Port Orange neighborhood
A woman was safely taken into custody after a two-hour barricade situation following a domestic disturbance in Port Orange.
A woman was taken into custody Thursday after an armed barricade situation in the Deep Forest neighborhood of Port Orange, police said, according to FOX 35 Orlando.
The incident began shortly before 11 a.m. in the Tall Pine Drive area following a domestic disturbance call, Port Orange police Chief Manuel Marino said during a news conference.
Officers encountered a potential threat against one of the responding officers, prompting the woman to retreat into her residence and initiate a barricade situation. The Southeast Volusia Regional SWAT team and Coastal Crisis Negotiations Team were called in to assist.
Authorities evacuated nearby homes and closed surrounding streets while negotiations continued. Residents were advised to stay indoors during the incident.
After about two hours, the woman exited the residence unarmed and was safely taken into custody. Police did not release her name or exact age but said the area was safe and the investigation is ongoing.
