Cold front brings cooler temperatures and lower humidity to Charleston this weekend
A strong cold front will move through Charleston Friday night, ending a stretch of record warmth and bringing more comfortable weather.
Charleston is set to experience a significant temperature drop this weekend as a strong cold front moves through the Lowcountry Friday night, according to Live 5 WCSC. The front will usher in much cooler and drier air, ending a period of unseasonably warm weather.
On Thursday, Charleston International Airport recorded a high of 88 degrees, surpassing the previous daily record of 87 degrees set in 2021. Nearby areas such as Moncks Corner and Orangeburg also tied or exceeded daily record highs, with Orangeburg reaching 90 degrees.
Friday will feature one last hot afternoon with highs in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees, potentially challenging the daily record high of 90 degrees set in 2018 at the airport. Early morning fog is possible but expected to be light, so caution is advised during the Friday morning commute.
After the cold front passes, humidity levels will drop significantly, making for more comfortable conditions throughout the weekend and into next week. While isolated showers may occur Saturday morning or early afternoon depending on the front's speed, skies are expected to clear by evening.
