Nineteen people were injured when a minibus collided with a train at the Channel Tunnel entrance.
A minibus transporting truck drivers collided with a freight train at the French entrance to the Channel Tunnel, resulting in 19 injuries, according to French authorities. The incident occurred at the loading platform in Coquelles, near Calais, and led to a temporary suspension of shuttle services for about 90 minutes.
Two individuals sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were airlifted to a hospital in Lille. The other 17 passengers, all men of various nationalities, suffered minor injuries and were treated at nearby hospitals, as reported by local officials.
The minibus was reportedly en route to board a shuttle train when it veered off course and struck the train. The local prefecture stated that this type of accident had not occurred previously at the loading area for the shuttle trains.
Emergency responders, numbering around 200, were dispatched to the scene to assist. Despite the incident, Eurostar passenger and freight services were not disrupted, as confirmed by the company.
