Several national forests propose new recreation fee sites
Multiple national forests propose establishing recreation fee sites to fund site operation and maintenance.
Several national forests across the country are proposing to establish new recreation fee sites, according to the Federal Register. These include the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest, Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests, Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, National Forests in North Carolina, Tahoe National Forest, and Eldorado National Forest.
The proposed fees collected at these sites would be used specifically for the operation, maintenance, and improvement of the recreation areas. This approach aims to ensure the sustainability and quality of the facilities for visitors.
Analyses conducted for each proposal compared the proposed fees to those at nearby recreation fee sites with similar amenities. These analyses found that the proposed fees are reasonable and typical for the area, indicating an effort to align with existing fee structures.
In addition to recreation fee sites, the Eldorado National Forest is also proposing a special recreation permit with associated fees, which would similarly support operation and maintenance of the covered activities.
The proposals are currently open for review and comment as part of the federal rulemaking process, allowing stakeholders and the public to provide input before any fees are finalized and implemented.
