Greens leader denies knowledge of secret dossier on Steele-John allegations
A secret Greens dossier on misconduct allegations against Senator Jordon Steele-John was revealed, but the party leader denies knowledge of it.
The Greens party reportedly created and maintained a secret dossier cataloguing allegations against Senator Jordon Steele-John, outlining strategies to suppress media coverage and monitor party members discussing the issue on social media, according to brisbanetimes.com.au.
The 47-page document, first drafted in 2016 and updated over the years, was accessible to Western Australian Greens and national Greens staff. It included details about complaints made before Steele-John entered the Senate in 2017 and instructions for crisis communication and social media monitoring.
Four former Greens staffers confirmed the dossier's existence and its use by both the WA Greens and the national leader’s office to manage the story. One senior Greens official reportedly resigned due to Steele-John's reinstatement despite complaints alleging inappropriate remarks.
Following the revelations, Steele-John took leave from the Greens party room. Greens leader David Shoebridge, however, denied knowledge of the dossier, stating it was not made by, used by, or seen by his office as the matter was referred to the parliamentary standards commission.
The situation remains under investigation, with calls from party members for an independent inquiry into the allegations against the senator.
