Repeat offender sentenced to six years for North Charleston petty larceny
A man was sentenced to six years under South Carolina's three-strikes law after stealing over $200 from a North Charleston restaurant.
A Charleston County jury found a man guilty of petit larceny after a one-day trial, according to the Ninth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office and local news reports.
The incident occurred on February 23, 2025, when the man entered Rania’s restaurant in North Charleston with his face covered, went directly to the cash register, and stole more than $200 before fleeing.
Police located him nearby, but he fled on a bicycle, crossing Rivers Avenue into a bank parking lot, where he abandoned the bike and jumped over a concrete wall. Officers apprehended him moments later and recovered the stolen cash.
The man was convicted of petit larceny, a lesser charge than the original strong-arm robbery charge, and sentenced to six years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections. The sentence was enhanced under the state’s three-strikes property crime law due to his extensive prior criminal history dating back to 2007.
His prior convictions include resisting arrest, shoplifting, breaking into vehicles, possession of marijuana, reckless driving, third-degree burglary, and receiving stolen goods. Prosecutors noted witnesses believed he had a firearm during the incident, but no firearm was recovered.
