Sacramento firefighters respond to multiple suspicious fires near American River Parkway
Fire crews have battled several fires near Northgate Boulevard, suspecting human involvement amid ongoing fire risks.
Sacramento firefighters have responded to multiple fires along the American River Parkway near Northgate Boulevard over the past week, according to CBS News. Fire officials suspect the fires may have been caused by human activity, though direct evidence is lacking due to no surveillance cameras in the area.
The Sacramento Fire Department reported responding to six or seven fires on Tuesday, at least two on Wednesday, and another on Thursday. Firefighters encountered multiple fires in quick succession, which required significant resources to extinguish.
Fire crews are using thermal-imaging drones and additional resources to locate and put out the fires. The area lacks fire hydrants, making firefighting efforts more challenging and resource-intensive.
Park rangers have increased patrols along the river and are contacting individuals who may be illegally camping in the area. Fire officials caution that cooler fall weather does not eliminate fire risks, as conditions remain critical for fire spread.
Captain Justin Sylvia emphasized that even small grass fires can quickly grow under current dangerous fire conditions, and the fires appear suspicious in nature, prompting ongoing vigilance by fire crews and law enforcement.
