Suspicious envelope sent to Maryland elections board intercepted
Maryland State Board of Elections received a suspicious letter that was stopped before delivery, officials say.
A suspicious envelope addressed to the Maryland State Board of Elections was intercepted before it could be delivered, the State Administrator of Elections Jared DeMarinis confirmed to The Baltimore Sun, WBFF reported.
DeMarinis described the letter as "madness" and suggested it might have been intended to interfere with the administration of the upcoming November elections, according to WBFF.
He emphasized that threats and harassment against election administrators must stop, stating the clear mission is to administer elections and let voters decide their future.
Federal authorities including the FBI, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and U.S. Capitol Police are investigating reports of letters containing suspicious substances sent to congressional and election offices nationwide, though it is unclear if Maryland is part of this broader investigation, WBFF reported.
