A shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, resulted in the deaths of three children and a teacher on Thursday, CBS News reported.

The community in Bend is grieving the loss, NPR National noted, highlighting the impact on the local area.

Authorities identified the suspected gunman as a teen who was stopped by a bystander, ABC News said.

The bystander, Kaylub Giamanco, a father of two students at the school, intervened after hearing gunshots and seeing the gunman enter the building, NBC News reported.

Oregon Governor Tina Kotek spoke with CBS News about the state's response to the tragedy, emphasizing the administration's efforts following the shooting.
