UMD seniors campaign to bring Larry David back for graduation speech
University of Maryland seniors want alum Larry David to deliver an inspiring commencement address this spring.
A group of University of Maryland seniors is campaigning to have alumnus Larry David return to campus as the commencement speaker for their spring graduation, WTOP reported.
The students believe David, who achieved success in show business after college, would provide an unforgettable and inspiring speech, especially amid current uncertainties about jobs and the impact of AI, according to WTOP.
Rami Shawwa, a student leading the effort, said they want to avoid a typical 'boring' speaker and instead bring someone funny and motivating. His friend Tommy Cohen emphasized David's humor as a key reason for their choice.
The group has organized a rally and launched an Instagram account to raise awareness, but so far they have not received a response from David or his representatives, WTOP noted.
A university spokeswoman told WTOP that the school would welcome David to deliver a speech on campus, indicating institutional support for the idea.
