Charlotte experienced its latest 90-degree day in recorded history before a strong cold front moved through early Saturday morning, WBTV reported. This front ushered in a significant temperature drop, shifting from summer-like warmth to much cooler fall conditions.

Saturday morning started with light showers along and east of Interstate 77, followed by clearing skies and sunshine in the afternoon. High temperatures reached only the 60s, about 25 degrees cooler than Friday, with north winds gusting up to 30 mph, adding a chill to the air, WBTV said.

Saturday night will be chilly with clear skies and calm winds, allowing temperatures to fall into the 40s across the Charlotte metro area, according to WBTV. Meanwhile, the North Carolina mountains will experience lows in the 30s and below freezing, prompting a Freeze Warning for much of the region and a Frost Advisory for nearby foothills.

Sunday is expected to remain dry and crisp, with highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s overnight. Patchy frost may occur again in the mountains but will be less severe than Saturday night, WBTV reported.

Looking ahead, an upper low off the Eastern Seaboard will keep dry weather in place through midweek, with a gradual warmup returning highs to near the 70s by Tuesday and Wednesday, close to normal for mid-October, WBTV added.
