Investigators are seeking a man who abandoned a dog outside the Mostly Mutts Market thrift store on Bells Ferry Road in Cherokee County, FOX 5 Atlanta reported.

Surveillance video showed a man tying the dog’s leash to the store door around 5 p.m. Sunday while the business was closed, then walking away. The dog remained there overnight without food or water until employees found it at 8:30 a.m. Monday.

The dog chewed through its leash around midnight but stayed near the store. The animal is now in the care of Cherokee County Animal Control as the investigation continues.

Mostly Mutts Animal Rescue, which operates the market and uses proceeds to save animals, said the man could have contacted them or animal control instead of abandoning the dog. The rescue’s executive director described the video as heart wrenching, noting the dog stayed where it was left, hoping for its owner to return.

Authorities ask anyone with information to contact the Cherokee County Marshal's Office at 678-493-6200.
