Hauser & Wirth gallery opens in Palo Alto with Calder and O'Keeffe exhibit
International art gallery Hauser & Wirth opened Oct. 3 in Palo Alto's historic post office with a block party and local performances.
The Hauser & Wirth Gallery, an international blue-chip art gallery based in Switzerland, opened its new location in Palo Alto on October 3, 2026, according to Palo Alto Online.
The gallery is housed in the renovated historic post office building on Hamilton Street in downtown Palo Alto, an area that already features five art galleries nearby, plus the Palo Alto Art Center a mile away.
To celebrate the opening, the gallery hosted a block party that included food trucks, an ice cream vendor, and performances by local groups, with a fanfare of alpenhorns setting the tone for the event, reported both The Almanac and Mountain View Voice.
The inaugural exhibit at the new gallery featured works by Alexander Calder and Georgia O’Keeffe, attracting visitors such as art enthusiasts from outside the area.
This addition increases the number of art galleries in downtown Palo Alto to six, enhancing the city’s cultural offerings and art scene, as noted by all three local sources.
