The San Jose Sharks began their six-game road trip with a 3-2 shootout win against the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena. The game was tied after regulation and overtime, with the Sharks ultimately winning in the shootout.

Mason Marchment and Will Smith scored even-strength goals for the Sharks, who improved to a 4-3-0 record. Goalie Alex Nedeljkovic made 32 saves, including five in overtime and a key stop in the shootout.

The Predators’ Steven Stamkos scored a tying goal with less than a second left in the third period, but the Sharks regrouped to secure the victory. Nashville goalie Juuse Saros made 30 saves in the game.

Nedeljkovic, starting his second game of the season, has a 5-4-0 record and a .908 save percentage in nine career games against Nashville. The Sharks have yet to win a game in regulation this season, with all four wins coming in overtime or shootouts.

The Sharks will continue their road trip with games against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday, the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday, and the Montreal Canadiens next Tuesday.

Yaroslav Askarov, who started five of the Sharks’ first six games, had a less effective performance in a recent loss to the Boston Bruins, with a .848 save percentage in five starts.
