Durham event supports mothers facing pregnancy loss and grief
An event in Durham brought together mothers and advocates to share stories and raise awareness about maternal health.
A Durham event titled "Joy, Grief and Motherhood" was held on International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day to support mothers experiencing pregnancy loss and grief, ABC11 WTVD reported.
The event emphasized that joy and grief can coexist and aimed to create a space where mothers feel comfortable remembering their children who were lost, according to Tabitha Blackwell, executive director of Grieve Leave.
Organizers said the event also served as a fundraiser for Equity Before Birth, a nonprofit focused on improving birth outcomes for Black and Brown mothers in Durham.
Grieve Leave founder Rebecca Feinglos expressed hope that attendees would find community and learn more about efforts to address preventable grief related to maternal health disparities.
Guests at the event wrote notes sharing what they wished others understood about motherhood, pregnancy, and loss, highlighting the importance of awareness and support.
