No Kings coalition shifts focus to boosting early voting this weekend
The No Kings coalition is holding over 3,000 events nationwide to promote early voting and train poll watchers.
The No Kings coalition, known for organizing nationwide anti-Trump protests, is shifting its strategy this weekend to focus on increasing voter turnout, according to reports from wknofm.org and houstonpublicmedia.org.
On Saturday, grassroots groups across the country will hold more than 3,000 "No Kings: Vote Early" marches and events. Organizers describe these as nonpartisan efforts aimed at encouraging early voting in the upcoming midterm elections.
Activities at these events include helping people check their voter registration status, making plans to vote, and educating attendees about their voting rights. The coalition comprises hundreds of partner organizations, including the American Civil Liberties Union and Black Voters Matter.
Ezra Levin, co-founder of Indivisible and a major figure in the No Kings network, stated that the coalition's initial protests were designed to send a message, but now the focus is on facilitating what they hope will be the largest early voting turnout in history.
Another key goal is to train volunteers as poll watchers. This effort responds to concerns about election integrity, including past proposals like the failed SAVE America Act that would have required proof of U.S. citizenship for voter registration, and worries about federal immigration officers being sent to polling places.
Events vary widely across the country, ranging from block parties and cookouts to rallies, with some unique activities like a "Paws to the Polls" march in Golden, Colorado, where participants bring their dogs.
