The National Hurricane Center reported that Tropical Storm Simon is currently located about 160 miles south of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, moving northwest at 9 mph in the eastern Pacific basin.

Simon has maximum sustained winds near 40 mph with gusts higher, and a minimum central pressure of 1002 mb, according to the National Hurricane Center advisory.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend up to 25 miles from the storm's center, and Simon is expected to weaken and become a post-tropical remnant low by Saturday.

Swells generated by Simon could affect the west-central coast of Mexico and Baja California Sur, potentially causing life-threatening surf and rip currents, the National Hurricane Center warned.

No coastal watches or warnings are currently in effect, but interests in Baja California Sur are advised to monitor the storm's progress.
