Five new sailboats debut at Annapolis Sailboat Show this weekend
Annapolis Sailboat Show features one world debut and four North American debuts, including a Chesapeake Bay-friendly American boat.
The Annapolis Sailboat Show is underway this weekend, showcasing five new boats making their American debuts, according to The Baltimore Banner. One sailboat, the Knysna 550, is making its world debut. This 55-foot offshore cruising catamaran from South Africa features three bedrooms and a large freshwater tank for extended trips.
Four other sailboats are making their North American debuts at the show. Among them is the Vaan R4 from the Netherlands, notable for its hull made of 60% recycled aluminum that is fully recyclable. This 42-foot catamaran has a narrow beam design that handles like a monohull and offers a customizable cabin.
The only American debut at the show is the Tartan 34, built in Ohio. This 34-foot classic sloop is designed for frequent use and spontaneous escapes, with keel options like a beavertail that make it suitable for shallow waters such as the Chesapeake Bay, a spokesperson said.
Despite construction at City Dock altering the usual layout, city officials have cooperated by moving construction equipment and allowing tents to be built over the area, the spokesperson added. The show also includes hundreds of vendors and service providers, making it an important event for the niche sailboat market.
Organizers have collaborated with local businesses ahead of the event, which is expected to be a lucrative opportunity for boat makers, who may sell a significant portion of their annual boats during the four-day show.
