3M recalls 53,600 laminators over fire risk in Orlando area
3M recalls Scotch-brand laminators sold online due to overheating and fire hazards, urging users to stop use and seek refunds.
3M is recalling approximately 53,600 Scotch-brand thermal laminators with model number TL1302Z because they may overheat and catch fire, according to FOX 35 Orlando. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reported 63 incidents of the units smoking, melting, or overheating, with five cases involving fires and one causing minor property damage.
The recalled laminators were sold between July 2024 and September 2026 on Amazon.com for prices ranging from $44 to $56. The devices are light gray and white with gray accents and feature a 13-inch laminating slot and a carrying handle on the right side. The model number TL1302Z is located on a sticker on the bottom of the unit and on the packaging, FOX 35 Orlando noted.
The CPSC advises consumers to immediately stop using the laminators and unplug them. Users should contact 3M to request a full refund by calling the toll-free number 800-772-4337 during business hours or by submitting a claim online through 3M's website under the 'Recall Information' section, FOX 35 Orlando reported.
Consumers will need to complete an online registration form, confirm their laminator is part of the recall, and upload a photo showing the unplugged power cord cut. The recalled units should be disposed of according to local and state electronics recycling laws, FOX 35 Orlando added.
